PANTOPRAZOLE
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces how much acid the stomach makes. It is taken before a meal and is available as tablets and injection.
What Pantoprazole Is Used For
- Acidity, heartburn and acid reflux (GERD)
- Stomach and duodenal ulcers
- Protecting the stomach during long-term painkiller use
Common Side Effects
- Headache
- Diarrhoea
- Nausea and abdominal pain
Precautions
Pantoprazole is meant for a defined course rather than indefinite daily use without review. Long-term use can lower magnesium and vitamin B12. See a doctor if heartburn keeps returning after a course, or if you notice weight loss, difficulty swallowing or black stools.
