Racecadotril is an anti-diarrhoeal medicine that reduces the amount of water and salts released into the gut, without slowing the bowel down.

What Racecadotril Is Used For

Short-term (acute) diarrhoea in adults
Acute diarrhoea in infants and children, together with oral rehydration
Watery diarrhoea from stomach infections

Common Side Effects

Headache
Skin rash (uncommon)
Mild stomach discomfort

Precautions

Racecadotril is used together with oral rehydration solution, not instead of it. Seek medical advice if there is blood in the stool, a high fever, signs of dehydration, or if diarrhoea lasts longer than a few days. Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
