Silodosin
Silodosin relaxes the muscle in the prostate and bladder neck so urine can flow more freely. It is used for the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate. It eases the symptoms rather than shrinking the gland itself.
What Silodosin Is Used For
- Weak stream, hesitancy and dribbling from an enlarged prostate
- Needing to pass urine often, including at night
- Urgency and a feeling of not emptying fully
Common Side Effects
- Reduced or absent semen on ejaculation, which is common and reversible
- Dizziness, especially on standing
- Blocked nose
- Diarrhoea
Precautions
Rise slowly from sitting or lying for the first few days. If you are due for cataract surgery, tell the eye surgeon that you take silodosin, as it affects the iris during the operation. Prostate symptoms should be assessed by a doctor first, since other conditions can cause the same complaints.
