Brivera 50mg Tablet contains the active ingredient brivaracetam, which belongs to a class of medications known as antiepileptic drugs. It is primarily used for the treatment of epilepsy, specifically as adjunctive therapy for partial-onset (focal) seizures in patients aged 16 years and older with epilepsy.

Components

  • Brivaracetam: Brivaracetam is a selective high-affinity synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) ligand that modulates neurotransmitter release. It exerts its antiepileptic effects by binding to SV2A in the brain, which may regulate synaptic vesicle exocytosis and neuronal excitability.

Uses

  • Epilepsy: Brivaracetam is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial-onset (focal) seizures in patients aged 16 years and older with epilepsy.
  • Adjunctive Therapy: It is used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs to improve seizure control and reduce seizure frequency in patients whose seizures are not adequately controlled with current medications alone.

Dosage and Administration

  • The recommended starting dose of Brivera 50mg Tablet is 50 mg twice daily, taken orally with or without food.
  • The dosage may be titrated upward based on individual response and tolerability, with the maximum recommended dose being 200 mg twice daily.
  • Brivera tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be chewed, crushed, or divided.
  • The dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with renal impairment or hepatic impairment.

Precautions

  • Renal Impairment: Brivaracetam is primarily eliminated by the kidneys, and dosage adjustment is recommended in patients with renal impairment based on creatinine clearance.
  • Hepatic Impairment: Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, and dose adjustment may be necessary.
  • Psychiatric Symptoms: Brivaracetam may cause psychiatric adverse reactions, including depression, suicidal ideation, aggression, and behavioral disturbances. Patients should be monitored for these symptoms and appropriate management initiated if necessary.
  • Withdrawal Effects: Abrupt discontinuation of brivaracetam may precipitate withdrawal symptoms or seizures. Therefore, the dose should be tapered gradually under medical supervision if discontinuation is necessary.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation: The safety of brivaracetam during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. The potential benefits should be weighed against the potential risks to the fetus or infant before initiating or continuing treatment with brivaracetam in pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Side Effects

  • Common side effects of Brivera 50mg Tablet may include dizziness, somnolence (drowsiness), fatigue, headache, nausea, and irritability.
  • Less common but potentially serious side effects may include psychiatric symptoms, such as depression, aggression, and suicidal ideation, as well as allergic reactions, respiratory depression, and seizures.
  • Patients should report any unusual or bothersome side effects to their healthcare provider promptly.

Storage

  • Store Brivera 50mg Tablet at room temperature (20-25°C) away from moisture and heat.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
