How Monobenzone Cream 15gm works

Monobenzone is a depigmenting agent. It permanently reduces the activity of the pigment-producing cells (melanocytes), so it is used in widespread vitiligo to lighten the remaining pigmented skin and even out colour. It should only be used under a doctor's supervision.

Possible side effects

Most people use this product without problems. Some may notice:

• Permanent loss of skin colour, which may also appear on areas that were not treated
• Redness, itching or irritation

Precautions

• Use only under a doctor's supervision, as the loss of skin colour can be permanent. Avoid contact between treated skin and other people.
• Do a small patch test first, and keep it away from the eyes, lips, inside of the nose and broken skin unless your doctor says otherwise.
• Stop using it and see your doctor if you notice severe redness, swelling, blistering or a rash.
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using it on children, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
