Ezetimibe lowers cholesterol by reducing how much is absorbed from food in the gut. It is often added to a statin when extra lowering is needed.

Precautions
Ezetimibe works alongside a low-fat diet, not instead of it. If you take it with a statin, report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness to your doctor. Your doctor may check liver function from time to time when it is combined with a statin.
