Nitazoxanide is an antiparasitic and antidiarrhoeal medicine. It is used for diarrhoea caused by certain parasites and protozoa.

What Nitazoxanide Is Used For

  • Diarrhoea caused by Giardia and Cryptosporidium
  • Some other parasitic gut infections

Common Side Effects

  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Yellow discolouration of urine (harmless)

Precautions

Take nitazoxanide with food. It turns the urine a yellowish colour, which is harmless. Finish the course as prescribed. See a doctor if diarrhoea is severe, bloody, or comes with high fever or signs of dehydration, which need proper assessment.
