About this product
Overview
Fersip syrup contains Iron (III) Hydroxide Polymaltose. It comes as a syrup. The pack contains 120ml syrup.
Iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose is a well-tolerated form of iron used to treat and prevent iron-deficiency anaemia. It is gentler on the stomach than some other iron supplements.
Uses of Fersip syrup
Fersip syrup is used for:
- Iron-deficiency anaemia
- Low iron in pregnancy
- Preventing iron deficiency where diet is not enough
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Fersip syrup can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common ones include:
- Darkening of the stools (harmless)
- Mild stomach upset
- Constipation
Tell your doctor if a side effect is severe or does not go away.
Precautions
Iron is best taken as your doctor directs and kept well out of reach of children, as iron overdose is dangerous for young children. It can take some weeks for iron levels to recover, so keep taking it for the full period advised. Tea and coffee reduce iron absorption.
Tell your doctor about any other medicines or supplements you take, any allergies, and if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
How to Use
Use Fersip syrup exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Shake the bottle well if the label says so, and measure each dose with the cup or spoon that comes with the pack, not a kitchen spoon. Read the leaflet inside the pack before you start.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, as directed on the pack. Keep out of the reach of children and do not use after the expiry date.
