Uses

Hydrourea 500mg Capsule is primarily prescribed for the following conditions:

  • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML): A type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow.
  • Polycythemia Vera: A blood disorder characterized by an overproduction of red blood cells.
  • Essential Thrombocythemia: A disorder in which the body produces too many platelets.
  • Sickle Cell Anemia: A genetic blood disorder in which red blood cells become rigid and sticky, leading to blockages in blood vessels and various complications.

Mechanism of Action

Hydroxyurea works by interfering with the synthesis of DNA, the genetic material of cells. By inhibiting DNA replication, it slows down the growth and proliferation of abnormal blood cells, helping to control blood disorders and reduce the risk of complications.

Administration

Take the capsule orally, with a full glass of water, as directed by your healthcare provider. Follow the prescribed dosage and frequency of administration.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Hydrourea 500mg Capsule may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and skin rash. Serious side effects may include bone marrow suppression, which can lead to decreased production of blood cells, and increased risk of infection and bleeding.
