Indications
Nitrofurantoin 100mg Tablet is indicated for:
- Treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by susceptible bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Enterococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, and other pathogens.
- Prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in patients with a history of recurrent infections.
Dosage and Administration
- The dosage of Nitrofurantoin 100mg Tablet depends on the severity of the infection, patient’s age, weight, renal function, and response to treatment.
- It is usually taken orally with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
- The usual adult dose for uncomplicated UTIs is 50 to 100mg four times daily for 7 days.
- For prophylaxis of recurrent UTIs, the usual dose is 50 to 100mg once daily at bedtime.
- The dosage may be adjusted by a healthcare professional based on individual factors.
Precautions
- Before taking Nitrofurantoin 100mg Tablet, inform your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have, especially kidney disease, liver disease, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
