Mechanism of Action

Atenolol exerts its pharmacological effects by selectively blocking beta-1 adrenergic receptors, primarily located in the heart. By doing so, it reduces the heart rate and cardiac output, thereby lowering blood pressure. Additionally, atenolol decreases the workload of the heart, which can help to prevent chest pain (angina) in individuals with coronary artery disease.

Administration
