Uses

Omatril 5mg Tablet is indicated for:

  • Contraception: Lynestrenol is used as a hormonal contraceptive to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration, and altering the endometrial lining to discourage implantation.
  • Menstrual Disorders: Lynestrenol may also be prescribed for the treatment of irregular menstrual periods, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), or other menstrual disturbances.

Mechanism of Action

Lynestrenol exerts its contraceptive effects by:

  • Inhibiting ovulation: Lynestrenol suppresses the release of gonadotropins (FSH and LH) from the pituitary gland, preventing the maturation and release of an egg from the ovary.
  • Thickening cervical mucus: Lynestrenol alters the quality and quantity of cervical mucus, making it thicker and less penetrable to sperm, thereby reducing the likelihood of fertilization.
  • Altering endometrial lining: Lynestrenol modifies the endometrium (uterine lining), making it less receptive to implantation of a fertilized egg.

Administration
