Description
Opcaine Drops 15ml contains the active ingredient Proparacaine. It is formulated as ophthalmic drops and is primarily used as a local anesthetic to numb the eye before certain eye procedures or examinations.
Active Ingredient:Opcaine Drops 15ml
Proparacaine: Proparacaine is a local anesthetic that works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses, thereby numbing the surface of the eye and providing temporary relief from pain or discomfort associated with certain eye procedures or examinations.
Uses:
Opcaine Drops 15ml is indicated for:
- Numbing the eye prior to minor surgical procedures, such as cataract removal or intraocular injections.
- Anesthetizing the eye before eye examinations, including tonometry (measurement of intraocular pressure) or foreign body removal.
Mechanism of Action:
Proparacaine exerts its anesthetic effect by reversibly blocking sodium channels in nerve cell membranes, preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. This results in temporary numbness and loss of sensation in the area where the drops are applied.
Administration:
Apply Opcaine Drops 15ml topically to the affected eye(s) as directed by a healthcare professional. Tilt the head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instill the prescribed number of drops into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to prevent contamination.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Opcaine Drops 15ml may include:
- Temporary stinging or burning sensation in the eye
- Transient blurred vision
- Redness or irritation at the site of application
- Sensitivity to light
Precautions:
- Use Opcaine Drops 15ml with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to local anesthetics.
- Avoid prolonged or frequent use of Proparacaine, as it may lead to corneal epithelial damage or delayed corneal healing.
- Remove contact lenses before instilling Opcaine Drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
Contraindications:
Opcaine Drops 15ml is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Proparacaine or any components of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with corneal abrasions or ulcers.
