Peg-INF 180ug

Peg-INF 180ug contains the active ingredient Peginterferon alfa-2a. It is a form of interferon used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C infections. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a modified version of interferon alfa-2a that has been attached to a polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecule, which prolongs its activity in the body.

Uses:

1. Chronic Hepatitis B: Peg-INF 180ug is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients with compensated liver disease and evidence of viral replication.
2. Chronic Hepatitis C: It may also be used in combination with other antiviral medications for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults.

Mechanism of Action:

Peginterferon alfa-2a works by exerting antiviral, immunomodulatory, and antiproliferative effects. It stimulates the body’s immune system to recognize and eliminate virus-infected cells, inhibits viral replication, and suppresses the production of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis C virus RNA.

Dosage and Administration:

• The dosage of Peg-INF 180ug and the duration of treatment depend on the specific viral infection being treated, the patient’s viral load, liver function, and other individual factors.
• It is administered by subcutaneous injection once weekly, usually in combination with other antiviral medications as part of a comprehensive treatment regimen.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Peginterferon alfa-2a therapy may include flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, headache, myalgia, and arthralgia. Other side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, depression, anxiety, and injection site reactions. Serious side effects such as hematologic disorders, liver toxicity, and autoimmune reactions may occur less frequently.

Precautions:

• Patients receiving treatment with Peg-INF 180ug should be monitored regularly for changes in liver function tests, complete blood counts, and mood disturbances.
• Peginterferon alfa-2a may exacerbate certain medical conditions such as autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease, and psychiatric disorders. Caution should be exercised in patients with pre-existing conditions.
• It is contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic decompensation, autoimmune hepatitis, and hypersensitivity to interferons or any component of the formulation.

Storage:

• Store Peg-INF 180ug in the refrigerator at the recommended temperature.
• Protect the vials from light and keep them in the original packaging until use.
