Overview

Diamox 250mg tablet is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor from Pfizer Laboratories (pvt) Ltd. Its active ingredient is Acetazolamide. Pack: 1×30 tablets.

Acetazolamide blocks an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase. The result is less fluid produced inside the eye, more salt and water passed by the kidneys, and a change in blood chemistry that helps the body adjust to altitude.

Diamox 250mg tablet is used to treat or manage:

  • Altitude sickness
  • Epilepsy
  • Fluid retention

Side Effects of Diamox 250mg tablet

Not everyone gets side effects. Those reported include:

  • Tingling in the fingers, toes or face
  • Passing more urine
  • Change in taste, especially fizzy drinks
  • Loss of appetite or nausea
  • Tiredness or drowsiness

Get medical help straight away for signs of a serious reaction, such as swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing or a severe rash.

Before You Use Diamox 250mg tablet

  • Do not take Diamox 250mg Tablet if you are allergic to sulfonamide (sulfa) medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, kidney stones, or low sodium or potassium levels.
  • Let your doctor know if you take high-dose aspirin, other diuretics, lithium or anti-epileptic medicines.
  • Drink enough fluids while taking it to reduce the risk of kidney stones.
  • It is usually avoided in pregnancy, especially early pregnancy, so speak to your doctor first.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C in the original pack. Do not use after the expiry date, and keep all medicines away from children.
