Ivacard 5mg Tablet contains the active ingredient ivabradine and belongs to a class of medications known as selective If channel blockers. It is primarily prescribed for the treatment of certain heart conditions, particularly chronic stable angina and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Active Ingredient:

• Ivabradine: Ivabradine works by selectively inhibiting the If channels in the sinoatrial node of the heart, which reduces the heart rate without affecting myocardial contractility or blood pressure. This results in a decrease in myocardial oxygen demand and improved cardiac efficiency.

Uses:

Ivacard 5mg Tablet is used for the following purposes:

1. Chronic Stable Angina: It helps reduce the frequency of angina episodes and improve exercise tolerance in patients with chronic stable angina who cannot tolerate beta-blockers or have inadequate symptom control with other antianginal medications.
2. Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction: Ivabradine is indicated in combination with standard heart failure therapies to reduce the risk of hospitalization for worsening heart failure and improve symptoms in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction who are in sinus rhythm with a resting heart rate of 70 bpm or higher.

Mechanism of Action:

Ivabradine exerts its pharmacological effects by selectively inhibiting the If (funny current) channels in the sinoatrial node of the heart. By blocking these channels, ivabradine reduces the spontaneous diastolic depolarization rate of pacemaker cells, thereby decreasing the heart rate without affecting atrioventricular conduction or myocardial contractility.
