About this product

Overview

Maxitrol 0.1%/0.35%/6000iu drops is a combination medicine that contains Dexamethasone, Neomycin and Polymyxin B. It comes as an eye and ear drop. The pack contains 10 ml drops.

These drops combine a steroid (dexamethasone) with two antibiotics (neomycin and polymyxin B) to treat inflammation together with infection.

Uses of Maxitrol 0.1%/0.35%/6000iu drops

Maxitrol 0.1%/0.35%/6000iu drops is used for:

  • Eye inflammation with a bacterial infection
  • Use after eye surgery, as prescribed

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Maxitrol 0.1%/0.35%/6000iu drops can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common ones include:

  • Brief stinging or burning
  • Blurred vision for a short time
  • Itching

Tell your doctor if a side effect is severe or does not go away, and get urgent help for signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, wheezing or a widespread rash.

Precautions

Use it only for the time prescribed, as long use of steroid drops can raise eye pressure. Do not use it for viral or fungal eye infections. Remove contact lenses before use.

Tell your doctor about any other medicines or supplements you take, any allergies, and if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How to Use

For the eye, tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid and put in the drops as advised. For the ear, lie on your side with the ear facing up and stay lying down for a few minutes. Wash your hands before and after use. Read the leaflet inside the pack before you start.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, as directed on the pack. Throw the bottle away after the time printed on the label once it is opened. Keep out of the reach of children and do not use after the expiry date.
