Selfloxx 250mg Tablets contains Levofloxacin 250mg, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It is prescribed for pneumonia, chest infections, sinusitis, urinary tract infections, prostate infections, typhoid fever and skin infections. Pack size: 10 tablets.

Uses of Selfloxx 250mg Tablets

Selfloxx 250mg Tablets is used for bacterial infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, urinary tract and kidney infections, chronic prostate infection, and skin and soft tissue infections. Doctors usually keep fluoroquinolones for infections where other antibiotics are not suitable.

How Selfloxx 250mg Tablets works

Levofloxacin blocks enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which bacteria need to copy their DNA and multiply. Without them the bacteria die.

Possible side effects

Common side effects of Selfloxx 250mg Tablets include:

  • Nausea or diarrhoea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Stomach pain

Stop taking it and contact your doctor at once if you get pain or swelling in a tendon (especially the heel), numbness or burning in the hands or feet, a fast or irregular heartbeat, mood changes, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Precautions and warnings

  • It is not normally used in children, teenagers who are still growing, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, heart rhythm problems, myasthenia gravis, diabetes or a history of tendon problems, or if you are over 60 or take steroids.
  • Keep a gap of a few hours between Selfloxx 250mg Tablets and antacids, iron, zinc or calcium supplements, as they reduce its absorption.
  • Avoid strong sunlight while taking it, as your skin may burn more easily.
  • Finish the full course your doctor prescribes.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it in the original pack until use. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
