Traxon 500mg Injection contains the active ingredient ceftriaxone, which belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. Traxon Injection is administered intravenously and is highly effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Uses

  1. Bacterial Infections: Traxon Injection is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:
    • Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
    • Skin and soft tissue infections such as cellulitis and abscesses.
    • Urinary tract infections including cystitis and pyelonephritis.
    • Intra-abdominal infections such as peritonitis and cholecystitis.
    • Sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea.
    • Meningitis and other central nervous system infections.
    • Septicemia and bacteremia.

Mechanism of Action

Ceftriaxone exerts its antibacterial effects by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It achieves this by binding to and inhibiting the activity of enzymes involved in cell wall synthesis, known as penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This leads to the disruption of bacterial cell wall formation, ultimately causing bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration

  • Avoid using Traxon Injection in premature neonates (birth to 28 days) who require treatment with calcium-containing intravenous solutions due to the risk of precipitation of ceftriaxone-calcium salt.

When Not to Use

Traxon Injection should be avoided in patients with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone or any components of the injection.
  • History of severe allergic reactions to cephalosporins or penicillins.
  • Neonates with hyperbilirubinemia, particularly those receiving phototherapy, as ceftriaxone may displace bilirubin from albumin and lead to kernicterus.
