Centaurus 0.5mg Tablet contains the active ingredient Entecavir. It belongs to a class of medications known as nucleoside analogs and is used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Entecavir works by inhibiting the replication of the hepatitis B virus, thereby reducing viral load and liver inflammation.

Uses:

1. Chronic Hepatitis B: Centaurus 0.5mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults with evidence of active viral replication, elevated liver enzymes, and histologically active liver disease.

Mechanism of Action:

Entecavir inhibits the activity of HBV DNA polymerase, an enzyme essential for the replication of the hepatitis B virus. By blocking viral replication, Entecavir reduces the production of new virus particles, leading to a decrease in viral load and improvement in liver function.

Dosage and Administration:

• The dosage of Centaurus 0.5mg Tablet and the duration of treatment depend on the patient’s viral load, liver function tests, and other individual factors.
• It is usually taken orally once daily on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours before or after a meal.
• The tablet should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Entecavir therapy may include headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and elevated liver enzymes. Serious side effects such as lactic acidosis, hepatotoxicity, and exacerbation of hepatitis may occur rarely.

Precautions:
